Symmetry Medical Launches Complementary Additions to the Micro Instrument Portfolio

Symmetry Medical Inc. announced today that its subsidiary, Symmetry Surgical, has released new Neurosurgical Line Extensions.

Specially Designed Neurosurgical Instruments Now Available as a Complete Set With a Custom Tray

WARSAW, Ind. , June 25, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --Symmetry Medical Inc. (NYSE:SMA), a leading global source of innovative medical device solutions, including surgical instruments, orthopedic implants, and sterilization cases and trays, announced today that its subsidiary, Symmetry Surgical, has released new Neurosurgical Line Extensions. The Symmetry Micro Instruments, which were included as part of Symmetry Surgical's recent acquisition of the surgical instrument portfolio of Codman & Shurtleff, are single-shafted mechanical micro instruments specifically designed for neurosurgical procedures. The new products include the release of a specially designed instrument tray that holds the comprehensive set of 33 Micro Instruments.

The new specially designed tray provides protection for the Micro Instruments' 2mm bayonetted shafts. The tray includes a removable lid, independent shelf and base. The independent shelf and base add additional value, as they can be placed directly on the back table in an operating room to keep the instruments organized throughout the surgical procedure.

Symmetry Surgical featured the new Micro Instruments at the recent annual meeting of the AANS – American Association of Neurological Surgeons , in Miami, FL April 14th to April 18th, 2012 . Attending surgeons took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Symmetry Surgical Technical Exhibit and compare these new instruments to those in use today, many of which are designs that are more than 30 years old.

Chris Huntington, Chief Operating Officer of Symmetry Surgical, added, "The new Micro Instruments and custom tray create a great deal of value and efficiency for Neurosurgeons. Their innovative designs are synergistic to other innovations in the Neurosurgical space and are in-line with our goal to help facilitate excellent clinical outcomes and operating room efficiency for our customers."
